Isabella Leonarda~~~~1898~1899~~
Dulcis Amor~This long motet - in six contrasting sections - is taken from Leonard's fourth book of motets, published in Bologna in 1690. Most of the setting is syllabic, but there are several flourishes - including quite a lot of demisemiquavers!~~Two scores|LEO001.2|Score|LEO001.1|~1898~1901~Soprano, motet, Leonarda~
Venite laetantes~The second of Dennis's Leonarda edition is of a motet for Soprano or Tenor with continuo, taken from her third book, dated 1687, although the line "I am the life of hearts, I am sweet Mary" suggests that the Tenor might also have been a woman...
The piece is neither as extensive nor as demanding as "Dulcis amor", but singers will particularly enjoy the gently rolling triple time sections that open and close the piece.~~Two scores|LEO002.2|Score|LEO002.1|~1898~1902~Soprano, tenor, motet, Leonarda~
Blurb~Dennis Collins will publish further motets by Leonarda in due course.~~~1898~1903~~
