Johann David Heinichen
Born in 1683, Johann David Heinichen studied first at the Thomasschule in Leipzig, then in the Law Faculty of the university there. After a stay in Italy, he was employed as Kapellmeister at the Saxon Court in Dresden from 1716 until his death in 1729. Although he composed a wealth of music for the famous Dresden orchestra, his main responsibility was church music. He also composed a number of small-scale works, such as the trio and quartets that we will publish.
Sonata in C minor
This three movement sonata for oboe, violin and continuo is one of several for that combination in the Darmstadt University and State Library.

Sonata in G
The sources for this piece give two different scorings: the three-movement sonata (the final Minuet is in binary form) will work equally well as an oboe / violin and continuo piece, or for two flutes and continuo.

Sonata in B flat
This fine four-movement work is scored for two oboes, obbligato bassoon and continuo and fits into a Dresden (?) tradition of quartets with independent bassoon, along with works by Fasch and Stölzel.

Concerto in G, S.214
This three movement concerto appears to be for Violin, Oboe and strings, but Heinichen (or the Dresden court copyists) add two ripieno oboes and bassoon throughout, and two flutes for the last movement, which makes the score extra colourful.
