| Johann Friedrich Fasch | Born in 1688, Fasch's musical talents were spotted at an early age and he went to sing in the Kapelle at Weißenfels. He later enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig, where he studied under Kuhnau. After studying law in the same city, he went on a journeyman's tour that led him to Darmstadt, where he took composition lessons with his former schoolmate, Christoph Graupner. A little under four months later, he set off again, visiting various towns in southern Germany before reaching Prague, where he directed Court Morzin's orchestra (to whom Vivaldi had dedicated several publications). In 1722, he accepted the position of Kapellmeister at Zerbst in Sachsen-Anhalt and, although he was rarely very happy (he was persecuted for his Pietist views), there he remained until his death in 1758.
