Giorgio Gentili (1669-1737) was leader of the orchestra at St Mark's Venice during the early part of the 18th century.
He devoted his Op. 5 (Concerti a quattro, e cinque) to Charles, Lord Manchester, who was the British ambassador to Venice.
The part-books were printed by the Venetian publisher Bortoli in 1708.
